This document was prepared by the subject area specialists from the Bureau of Standards and Instructional Support (BSIS) at the Florida Department of Education to provide a list of some of the resources available online to consider during disruptions to daily brick and mortar instruction.
CHARACTER COUNTS!
CHARACTER COUNTS! is providing free online character development resources for parents and educators that are age specific for elementary, middle school, and high school. The online lesson plans include a search function by grade level and topical focus. These lesson plans help teachers continue developing the character of their students, while also providing simple writing prompts and other online activities. The Family Guides are available for grades K-5, 6-8, and 9-12. Family Guides are a great resource to share with families who are in need of learning activities to do with their students while at home.
Dads Worksheets
DadsWorksheets.com has been one of the web’s top ranked sources of free math learning materials since 2008. Repetition is the path to mastery, and so the logic goes with timed math drills. Maybe you’re home schooling, or maybe you’re in a district that’s gone full speed into Mad Minutes, Rocket Math or some other type of timed testing. Either way, your kid needs practice and lots of it. Nobody learns math by osmosis. You learn math by burning up pencils and paper.
WFSU Public Media
WFSU Public Media is partnering with PBS Learning Media to provide links to free videos, lessons, interactives and tools to help keep your children learning while at home. All resources are FREE and aligned to Florida standards.

More than 800 free original tutorials aligned to Florida’s standards support student learning in language arts, mathematics, science, civics and U.S. History.

Khan Academy is a nonprofit with a mission of providing a free, world-class education for anyone, anywhere to encourage continued education. Khan Academy is largely the #1 free resource during this time for students, teachers, districts and parents.
NASA
NASA has made their entire Media Library of over 140,000 photos and resources accessible to the public and copyright free. Click here to access the library.
Shmoop
Shmoop is offering access to a full library of online content and resources to the entire state of Florida for free by providing greater access to premium content and resources to support continuity of learning remotely. Read Theory
Read Theory (www.readtheory.org) provides personalized reading comprehension exercises for K-12 and ESL students. It is a completely free, adaptive tool for assessing and tracking student reading performance. For more information about Read Theory, click here.

Diamond Piano Method
Diamond Family Piano Academy is offering an entire free curriculum to help students to continue to learn about music. Go to DiamondPiano.com and click the login button in the upper right-hand corner. Login as a student with the username FreeStudent and a password of UseFree1. (Be sure to make the username and password one word and to get the capital letters in there.) Go to DiamondPiano.com and click “join our online academy”. Follow the steps to create an administrative and then student account in Diamond Piano’s online academy. North American Scholastic Esports Federation
North American Scholastic Esports Federation launched free daily “Community Club” sessions for students. These are interactive online gatherings to provide activities, socialization (without physical contact), development of game skills, and insights into the careers and lives of professionals working in the esports industry.
Pencil Madness
Pencil Madness is a free online sketching tool for students to practice visual arts online.
Walkabouts
Walkabouts ActivEd is making the Walkabouts platform available temporarily for free to any students forced to learn from home in response to the COVID-19 related school closings. Given these stressful and less than ideal circumstances, our team recognizes the importance of a resource for standards-based movement and physical activity. In addition to the general student logins being distributed by our team now, we are also offering significant accommodations and discounts to regions and districts who wish to license our platform at the enterprise level for their specific state standards. Elementary – English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics
eSpark Learning
eSpark offers free targeted instruction in reading and math for K-5 students based on their current needs.
Family Math Card Game Booklet
Math Card Game Book is designed to help children ages Pre-K to Grade 2 learn important math skills using only a regular deck of playing cards. The booklet may be particularly helpful in the current situation when so many parents are required to home school their children. The booklet was developed in a three-year research project at the Boston College Lynch School of Education, funded by the Heising-Simons Foundation, awarded to Beth Casey, Ph.D. and Eric Dearing, Ph.D., Boston College Professors. Florida PBS
Florida PBS stations are banding together to support at-home learning for students by delivering a new weekday television schedule of educational programs. Hand2mind has created free access to K-5 lessons for math/science/literacy content for five days a week instruction.
Imagine Learning
Imagine Learning offers online language development lessons for K-8 students, including Math and Literacy Programs, geared towards keeping students, parents and educators engaged in academics and language development during this time.
Learning Without Tears
Learning Without Tears can help teachers and families continue their student’s handwriting (cursive and print), keyboarding, and pre-kindergarten development from a distance. In addition to digital instruction, our resources also include At-Home Learning Packets which provide materials for use during school closures regardless of children’s access to a device or the internet. They are available by grade, and in English and Spanish.
Zearn Math
Zearn Math is providing math lessons for K-5 students free. Kids, teachers, parents, and caregivers can directly access online and paper-based materials at www.zearn.org.

Carolina
Carolina Biological Supply Company is committed to support parents, teachers, and school districts with learn-from-home resources during this challenging time. Code.Org
The Hour of Code is a global movement reaching students in 180+ countries. Anyone, anywhere can organize an Hour of Code event or try any of the over 500+ one-hour tutorials, available in over 45 languages.
Dyson
Dyson created 44 engineering and science activities for children in the form of YouTube videos and downloadable Challenge Cards.

National Inventors Hall of Fame
The National Inventors Hall of Fame provides online STEM and invention education lesson plans and activities to encourage continued learning, including STEM activity blogs and a STEM activity guide.
PhET Interactive Simulations
PhET Interactive Simulations offers 158 free interactive Math & Science simulations for students where students are able to explore through a game-like environment.
Project Learning Tree
Project Learning Tree (PLT) is an environmental education program that engages children in learning—both outside and indoors. Try these (free!) PLT family activities that you can do at home—both inside and close-by in a safe space outside—to keep kids engaged through active participation as they learn about nature. Activities are suitable for children ages 3—15 years; some activities are work better for younger children, others are more suited for older children.
Primary Playground
Primary Playground offers free online activities and ideas to support teachers and parents in engaging Elementary level students in educational and innovative ways.
ST Math
ST Math is offering free access to parents and educators to their interactive math curriculum geared towards K-8 grade level students through June 30, 2020.
Tynker
Tynker teaches kids to code with block-based and text-based programming courses and activities. Educators can sign up for free access to the complete Tynker School PreK-12 curriculum. Parents and kids learning from home can access Tynker's premium coding program, Tynker for Home, for free during school closures.

The Florida Historical Society
The Florida Historical Society is offering free access to their Florida Frontiers archive, each episode focusing on an aspect of Florida history and culture. New episodes are added approximately every eight weeks, but as of April 3, 2020 there are 35+ episodes offered on their website.

Great Minds
Great Minds offers free access to “Knowledge on the Go” lessons in Math, Language Arts and Science for K-8 students and high school level math courses. These courses will be available through August 31, 2020.
North America Scholastic Esports Federation
The North America Scholastic Esports Federation provides free scholastic esports curriculum, competitions, and professional development so that all students have the opportunity to use esports as a platform to acquire critical communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills needed to thrive in work and in life. Finance Your Future
These online courses strive to be a comprehensive, yet simple overview of various financial topics like banking, budgeting and saving, credit and debt, insurance and financial frauds and scams. These courses are designed for middle and high school students as well as parents, teachers and other adults. This program is approved by the Department of Education as meeting the Financial literacy standards and contains modules, assessments and an instructor portal to assist teachers with implementation of this program.
Foundation for Economic Education (FEE)
FEE has a plethora of resources available online for free to teach economics to students at home through our free online courses as well as our educational videos.
iCivics
iCivics offers free online Civics Lessons and virtual games to engage and inform students in an age appropriate way about America’s government and history.
Interactive Constitution
The Peer-to-Peer Classroom Exchange program connects middle and high school students across the United States for virtual conversations about the Constitution.
Middle and High School – Test Prep
ACT Information
ACT has announced new testing dates for Fall 2020.
- ACT will continue to offer fall testing for states and school districts across the U.S., as it has for the past four years.
- Students can take the ACT on campuses of hundreds of participating colleges with the ACT On-Campus solution.
- ACT will be offering its new individual section retest option this fall for those students who wish to retake only one portion of the exam.
During this difficult time, ACT is also providing free digital learning and workforce resources to assist students, teachers, schools and workers impacted by COVID-19.
SAT Information
This year, many schools and test centers will have reduced capacity because of social distancing guidelines, and they may encounter unexpected closures. Because of public health restrictions and high demand, there is limited seating capacity for students testing in certain areas. While College Board can't directly control capacity and test center availability, we're working to ensure that as many students as possible are able to test safely. Get the latest SAT test center capacity updates.
Upcoming SAT Weekend Administrations, Including Health and Safety Requirements
College Board is providing weekend SAT or SAT Subject Test administrations every month through the end of the calendar year, beginning in August. This includes a new SAT administration on September 26, and the previously scheduled tests on August 29, October 3, November 7 (domestic SAT, international Subject Tests), and December 5. Please note that as the coronavirus (covid-19) pandemic continues to evolve, we will continue to monitor the situation and will let you know if circumstances change closer to the test dates.

For each administration, we’re preparing to significantly expand our capacity for students to take the SAT once schools reopen. We’re calling on our member schools and colleges, as well as local communities, to provide additional test center capacity so every student who wants to take the SAT can do so.

Centers For Disease Control and Prevention
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is offering an interim list of Environmental Cleaning and Disinfection Recommendations for facilities of those who have had suspected or confirmed cases of COVID-19. This resource outlines recommendations of how and when to clean and disinfect surfaces, what Personal Protective Equipment to wear and other considerations employers should be aware of. Committee for Children
Committee for Children developed a host of social-emotional resources to help children cope with the events associated with the coronavirus; these resources are intended for educators and families and offer free learning activities for young people ages 5-13, adaptable for remote learning or for families to do with their children.
Coronavirus and Me - Storybook
Patrick Barney wrote and illustrated Coronavirus and Me, an activity book with a story, mazes, word searches, and color-in pages that is free to the public.

Florida Blue and New Directions Behavioral Health
Florida Blue and New Directions Behavioral Health have teamed up to offer a hotline to help Floridians deal with their anxiety over the COVID-19 crisis. Specially trained behavioral health counselors will answer the phone 24-hours a day and offer assistance in both English and Spanish. To receive assistance, please call 833-848-1762.

The White House, the Department of Education, and other federal agencies continue to release and update a significant amount of guidance to support schools, educators, and families regarding COVID-19 (Coronavirus). For updated information, please visit Coronavirus.gov, CDC.gov/coronavirus, and USA.gov/coronavirus.
For education-related information, the Department has established a dedicated Coronavirus webpage (ed.gov/coronavirus), which includes resources for institutions of higher education and for K-12. This information is continually updated so please check back for the latest.
- The website includes information from Federal Student Aid (FSA) for students, borrowers, and parents.
- The Office of Postsecondary Education has issued guidance, including an FAQ, for interruptions of study related to COVID-19.
- The CDC has issued guidance for administrators of US Institutions of Higher Education to plan, prepare and respond to COVID-19.
- Also, see a letter from the Office for Civil Rights that addresses potential discrimination associated with coronavirus.
The Department has provided additional information for families and communities including:
- At-home activities for students and parents to continue learning while not in school;
- Information regarding certain flexibilities under the Every Student Succeeds Act, or “ESSA;”
- Information regarding services to children with disabilities;
- A fact sheet from our Office for Civil Rights on the risk of Coronavirus in schools while protecting the civil rights of students; and a short webinar on Online Education and Website Accessibility;
- Information on the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act, or “FERPA,” including a webinar, as it pertains to K-12 and higher education students;
- Information for Accrediting Agencies Regarding Temporary Flexibilities Provided to Coronavirus Impacted Institutions or Accrediting Agencies.

American Psychological Association
The American Psychological Association has provided resources and information for the public including self-care resources, behavioral and public health, parenting and care giving and stress, anxiety and grief.
Can Do U
Can Do U has created a free classroom that will give any high school in the state free access to easy-to-use, zero-teacher prep SEL videos, self-grading quizzes and discussion guides through November 2020, a free 90-day enrollment.
Florida Department of Children and Families
The Florida Department of Children and Families Substance Abuse and Mental Health has created a resource to Find Local Services by county in the State of Florida. You can click on a drop down menu and select the county of residence- this will take you to a page with resources such as the managing entity, the CAT team, FACT team and mobile response team.
Florida Department of Health
The Florida Department of Health has compiled a list of resources for supporting the mental and emotional health needs of children and families before, during, and after a disaster.
Money & Mental Health – Practical Financial Skills to Manage Money
Finty has created a guide focusing on how financial debt and money worries impact people’s mental health, the importance of practical financial skills and how it helps with mental health, including expert advice on combating debt, knowing why people overspend, and how to manage the effects of money pressures, as well as practical and useful tips and advice such as how to do a budget, analyzing spending habits, where to save on household expenses, and how to deal with debt, and how to make money management a habit.
QuaverEd SEL PK-5
No matter how, or where, school starts - QuaverEd SEL resources are available for all Florida educators through December 31, 2020. Resources support learning and engagement for grades PK-5 in the traditional-school setting, virtual or hybrid models. Southern Region Educational Board
The Southern Region Educational Board is dedicated to helping educators and policy leaders work through the challenges from COVID-19, sharing resources to continue to deliver teaching and learning, from elementary through graduate school. They have compiled a multitude of state and national resources, some of which is targeted for school counseling and mental health.
U.S. Department of Health & Human Services
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is providing guidance and resources to assist individuals, providers, communities, and states across the country, including media guidelines to prevent bullying.

Colorín Colorado provides a broad range of information and resources to support English learners during school closures, including advice for families of English learners and for educators to help schools and communities partner more effectively with multilingual families. The website is available in both English and Spanish. Fact sheets in multiple languages are also available.
Ellevation Distance Learning

Mid-Atlantic Equity Consortium (MAEC)

The National Association of English Learner Program Administrators (NAELPA)
NAELPA Executive Board is collecting resources on online instruction for educators working with ELs. WIDA
WIDA released guidance on opportunities and challenges of teaching multilingual learners in online environments based on the 2019 WIDA Guiding Principles of English Learning. The guidance includes resources and recommendations for teachers of multilingual learners. For families of young children ages 2-7 years, WIDA Early Years also has developed two free, downloadable activity booklets in both English and Spanish.

Access from AT&T – We offer internet access for qualifying limited income households at $10 a month or less through our Access from AT&T program. Comcast is offering free Wi-Fi, postponing service cutoff for coronavirus crisis. A map of Xfinity WiFi hotspots is available at www.xfinity.com/wifi. For those with school-age students at home, Comcast created new educational collections for all grade levels in partnership with Common Sense Media. Customers say “education” into their X1 or Flex voice remote to use. Xfinity will not be charging late fees to for customers that are unable to pay their bill due to impact from COVID-19.

FoodFinder
FoodFinder is a national nonprofit with a website, www.foodfinder.us, and mobile app (“FoodFinder – Fighting Hunger”) that shows low-income families when and where to get nutritious free food from their closest food pantry. Organizations that would like to be included as a resource on this platform should also visit www.foodfinder.us.
USDA
U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue announced a series of flexibilities to make it easier for children, seniors, and individuals with disabilities to get food during the COVID-19 national emergency and remove administrative roadblocks for the dedicated local staff who serve them. USDA is now allowing states to permit parents or guardians to take meals home to their children. It has also issued waivers on the times meals may be served (to make meal pick-up easier), the requirement that meals be served in group settings (to support non-congregate social distancing), and the requirement that afterschool meals and snacks served through certain programs be accompanied by educational activities (to minimize exposure to the novel coronavirus).
